Guy Latraverse was a Quebec producer and impresario who played a major role in developing the province’s live entertainment industry. His career encompassed artist management, major live productions, television and the creation of influential cultural institutions. [1]
Career and work
Latraverse began his career in 1962 as the agent for singer-songwriter Claude Léveillée and went on to work with many major Quebec performers. He produced large-scale concerts and events as well as nearly a thousand hours of television programming. [1]
He was involved in the creation of ADISQ and its televised gala and was also behind the establishment of the FrancoFolies de Montréal. [1]
What has been publicly discussed
- Latraverse was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1986 after roughly twenty years of illness without treatment. The diagnosis allowed him to begin treatment, after which the Ordre national du Québec states that he regained his health. [1]
- After his diagnosis and treatment, Latraverse became deeply involved in mental-health awareness. He helped found the organization now known as Relief and served as chair of its board for more than 20 years, followed by a decade as honorary chair. [2][1]
- Relief describes him as the first person in Quebec to speak publicly and openly about his experience with bipolar disorder, helping break taboos around mental illness. [2]
